Recently, there has been a lot of tension surrounding the plethora of information coming to light about Cuomo and his decisions that lead to thousands of deaths in nursing homes from the COVID-19 virus.
When an update was last given about this situation, there wasn’t a straight answer to be had, It was a lot of back and forth between the governor, reporters, and the public. As a result of having knowledge and not reporting it, top officials have faced resignation and Cuomo had his powers limited.
The governor faced much criticism and scrutiny after the report was released by Leticia James, especially, in regards to the timeline and how he has had so much time to make this situation right and come clean but chose not to. Cuomo is facing heavy backlash from both republicans and democrats, creating a bipartisan opinion on what they want to be done about the issue of Cuomo’s position of power.
The vast majority of people want Cuomo to resign or be impeached. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro has also given his opinion saying, “In the coming days he will cynically try to convince us that it was for our good — that it was someone else's fault. This is another lie. What is true, is Andrew Cuomo has proved himself unworthy of our trust, and unfit for public office.”
Whispers are going around that Cuomo is only sorry because he got caught and Sen. Alessandra Biaggi (D-Westchester) tweeted “Because of your decisions, thousands of people died who did not have to die.” So is it time for Cuomo to step down considering his constant lying and wrong behavior? He has already had his emergency powers stripped from him for not having the people’s best interest in mind and for losing their trust. It is still not certain what will happen, but it will not be good for him.
